No Man’s Sky doesn’t require a PS Plus subscription to play

Good news if you're looking to play No Man's Sky. While we all know that the game is one giant connected universe, the game is apparently so huge that the developers actually consider the game to be single player per the game's description on Steam and PSN. In response to an inquiry from Game Informer, a representative from Sony confirmed that No Man's Sky will not require a single player subscription.

They said:

"PS Plus won’t be a requirement to play online, however you will need to (be) connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas."

This makes sense given the fact that player contact, even more so with your own friends is expected to be relatively minimal. Considering that the developers have said that they expect 99% of the game's universe will never be explored, you can see how one might quantify No Man's Sky as a single player game.

No Man's Sky has (once again) been in the news for the wrong reasons recently. This time, a Dutch Company has claimed that Hello Games is using a patented "Superformula" that is able to procedurally generate a large number of objects in an environment. While No Man's Sky employs a mathematical equation that generates the game's universe, the game's Director, Sean Murray has denied that they are using the superformula.

No Man's Sky releases on August 9th, 2016 on PS4, but PC players may be getting the game three days later on August 12th.
