No, Pacific Rim 2 has not been cancelled, only delayed

Sweet, I don't have to be needlessly angry.

Earlier this week we heard that Pacific Rim 2 had been delayed, rumors of a cancellation began to circulate following the announcement of a delay. According to Guillermo del Toro, the film's director, the cancellation part of the rumor simply isn't true.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Del Toro revealed that the film was still happening – just with a delay that's long enough for him to fit another film in. “We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks,” said Del Toro. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.”

After Del Toro hands his budget request and screenplay in, he might keep himself busy with another film, “I may do another movie in the middle.” Granted, after his budget is handed to the studio Pacific Rim 2 might be cancelled anyway, Del Toro has a history of expensive films.

“I can tell you this, if I was a billionaire, I would definitely do Hellboy 3, Pacific Rim 2, and At the Mountains of Madness.” He laughs. “And I would quickly become a millionaire.”
