With the success of Nintendo’s new portable/console hybrid, the Nintendo Switch, many are wondering if their favorite AAA games will make their way over to the platform. One of the games on that wishlist is the upcoming Monster Hunter: World.
The highly anticipated entry in the acclaimed Japanese franchise is releasing later this week on PS4 and Xbox One with a PC release later down the line but fans wonder if a Switch version is in the cards at some point.
Speaking with IGN, the game’s directors Kaname Fujioka and Yuya Tokuda shut down any plans for a Switch port in the foreseeable future due to the fact the console didn’t exist when they began development.
“We don’t have any plans for the Switch at the moment. Part of the reason is that the title has been in development for almost 4 years. At the time we had to commit to our hardware choices, we decided on using the most powerful current generation consoles available at the time, which was PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So [the decision was made] before the Switch was even announced or on sale.”
It’s also because for every title we decide what the best fit for hardware is for the concept. We don’t just look at everything. It’s more like “if we want to achieve this kind of game concept, where’s the best place to achieve that?” and for this title the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were the best fit for us.”
It sounds like the game may potentially be too big in scope for the Switch as well but who knows, developers are still unlocking all of the potential for the game so maybe we could see the JRPG come to console at a later date.
Monster Hunter: World comes to Xbox One and PS4 on January 26th, 2018.
