No PS Plus required for The Elder Scrolls Online on PS4

Good news for PlayStation 4 owners, Sony won't require you to have a PlayStation Plus account to enjoy ZeniMax Online Studios' latest MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. That's extremely good news considering you'll still be subject to the $14.99/month required monthly subscription established by Bethesda.

"A PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play The Elder Scrolls Online," game director Matt Firor confirmed in a Q&A on the PS Blog. "PS4 players will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay—nothing more."

Although PlayStation Plus is considered optional, Sony requires you be a member to play PS4 games online. A few exceptions to the rule include some free-to-play games like Warframe, DC Universe Online, and Blacklight: Retribution. Having to pay for both PS Plus and a TESO subscription would've been a lot to ask of PS4 players — so good decision Sony. We've yet to hear if Microsoft will require you to be a Xbox LIVE Gold member, but I'd imagine a similar structure.

The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to PS4 and Xbox One some time in June 2014. Firor also revealed that a PS4 beta is planned, though he couldn't provide any official dates.
