Nokia N-Gage Tour gets gamers
gagging for it
Over 20,000 thousand gamers turned
out for the UK N-Gage Tour for an exclusive first look and all-important test
drive of the Nokia N-Gage, whetting their appetites for the global launch on 7th
October. The N-Gage Tour started in Newcastle Haymarket on 29th August and came
to its dramatic conclusion on Saturday 6th September on London’s South Bank.
The imposing truck was constantly packed out with gamers, keen to put the
much-anticipated N-Gage through its paces and with top class software showcasing
the gamedeck’s unique wireless multiplayer game play, they were not
disappointed. Ryan Peters from Manchester said: ‘I’ve just thrashed my mate on
Tony Hawks Pro Skater and it was wicked, when and where can I buy one!’
The brave and brazen put their skills to the ultimate test in the N-Gage
Challenge, determined to prove they were the best – some dedicated players made
special trips to several tour visits to protect their scores. Just six players
have ended up dominating the 30 high scoreboard places and overall UK champion
Sean (Hogi) Hogdson from Leeds will be traveling to the N-Gage Challenge Finals
in Paris on 4 October to represent UK against Europe.
Guest DJs from Scotland’s Beat 106FM and the Galaxy network added some local
sounds and in Manchester a surprise visit from sexy Hollyoaks stars Darren
Jeffries, (OB) Carley Stenson, (Stef) and Tiffany Mulheron, (Natalie) added a
touch of glamour as they got to grips with the N-Gage. Even more surprising was
a drop in from Uri Geller in Convent Garden who swapped mind games for N-Gage
games for a while.
The Nokia N-Gage Tour will visit more than 50 cities across 16 European
countries during its eight week run. Each tour date gives gamers the chance to
get hands on with the Nokia N-Gage game deck and see true mobile wireless gaming
in action for the very first time.
The Nokia N-Gage is the first mobile games console to offer multiplayer gaming
over Bluetooth and GPRS, and launches globally on 7 October 2003. It features
titles from top publishers such as Electronic Arts, Activison, Eidos, Sega,
Taito and THQ. As well as being a game deck, the Nokia N-Gage has a built in
mobile phone and features an MP3 player and a stereo FM radio.
