Politics can be a fickle topic. Whether it is at family reunions or meetups with old friends. Whenever talk starts about it, you can bet things will get heated very quick. It seems that as time passes, this only becomes more drastic. So, what’s a good way to deal with this frustrating topic? Make a satirical game about it, of course!
In an alternate 1980s where the nation stumbles towards dystopia, join the National Nightly News team as they document the latest political scandal, the rise of a radical government, and which celebrity has for some reason written a book about it all.
That’s what indie dev NotGames is planning to do with Not For Broadcast. By taking the very real and evil topic of propaganda and turn it into a playable form. As an FMV game – full-motion video – NFB will task the player in controlling a fictional news network. With a far-out government breathing into your necks, it’ll be up to players whether to give in to immoral guidelines and what to show to the public and what not.
The similarities to reality are uncanny. In the age where Fake News is being commonly used, Not For Broadcast could become a fascinating experience in the vein of the excellent Papers, Please. Albeit not nearly as drab and sad. Quite the opposite. The developers have opted to go for an over-the-top satirical depiction of politics and media.
Thankfully, there’s already a free Prologue which you can try for free right now on Steam, to make your own opinion on the game before it launches this month, January 30th on Steam via Early Access.
