Earlier this week Apple revealed an improved Apple TV set up that starts at $150. This improved Apple TV will finally give people the option to play games through the device and will even be supported by Steelsereies with their 'Nimbus' controller.
Apple TV's push into gaming might be unique for the device, but it's nothing new. The Amazon Fire TV that was revealed last year gives cable cord-cutters owners the option to play games, as does the Nvidia Shield. While Amazon decided to stay quiet on the subject, Nvidia decided to call Apple out.
Nvidia built up an entire blog dedicated to comparing their product to the Apple TV — basically saying how superior the Shield is for gamers. The blog says things like the following:
If you’ve been watching from the sidelines as the cord-cutting revolution began to take shape, waiting for more “substantial” options, you may now find yourself at a crossroads. “Which way do I go?” If you’re already an Apple TV user, we don’t necessarily expect you to run out and buy the new Apple TV.
While many of the features are impressive, the basic offerings may not justify the $200 price-tag over what you already own. There’s a more important question however. Do you really want to be locked into that walled garden?

In the end, these products are for two types of people. There are people who enjoy the mobile games that will be available on the Apple TV and the people who want to play PC games on their TV.
