Nvidia Shield priced and dated for pre-order

Back in January, Nvidia, a company most known for its GPUs, unveiled Project Shield. For those not following, this shiny new piece of tech is a dedicated Android gaming handheld. Powered by the Tegra 4 processor, it's even capable of streaming PC games from a computer with virtually no lag. Of course, this type of tech doesn't come cheap.

Nvidia today revealed the $349 price tag for the device. Considering the potential capabilities of the handheld — it'll play Android games and apps, as well as stream Steam games — it's not too unreasonable; though it seems more like the kind of luxurious item that you don't necessarily need, but probably really want. I know the thought of playing Borderlands 2 on this nifty gadget has me wanting one.

Dropping the "Project," Nvidia's new device is now simply Shield. It will ship in June and will be available from GameStop, Newegg, Microcenter, and Canada Computers. Pre-orders for Shield don't go live until May 20 for the general public, but those who have signed up to receive updates can pre-order today.
