NYCC: Future crossover between ‘The Walking Dead’ & ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ confirmed

We've been waiting...

The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead timelines have been separate since the latter premiered as a prequels show in August 2015, but that is all about to change.

During the popular show's slot at New York Comic Con, Robert Kirkman – the creator of the comics on which both series are based – ended long-standing speculation and told fans to get ready for a Walking Dead/Fear The Walking Dead crossover in the future.

“I think that we’ve finally gotten to a place with Fear the Walking Dead where it has its own identity where we can play with some things,” said Kirkman.

“So what I’m going to say, and this is all I’m going to say, is that there are two Walking Dead shows. I’m not going to name them. But there are two. There’s one character that is going to go from one show that I will not name and appear in the other show, which I will not name.”

Kirkman has a track record of joking around with fans, but make no mistake about it, this was an official announcement.

The news was later posted onto The Walking Dead's Twitter account. Take a look:

Kirkman might have been explicit about the crossover's existence, but no further details came from his appearance in New York – on that front, at least.

However, the American Comic Book writer did tease ways in which the upcoming crossover could unfold.

He said: “Are we going to see an interesting backstory of the Walking Dead character showing up in Fear the Walking Dead?”

“Or are we going to see a Fear the Walking Dead character show up in The Walking Dead, and see a future version of a character? What could happen? Is it going to be something completely different than that?”

Fans will be left to ponder the different scenarios that could lead to a crossover, but in the meantime, they don't have to wait around much longer for the show to return to our screens. Season 8 of The Walking Dead will premiere on AMC, Sunday October 22.
