Obliterate pocket-sized zombies in House of the Dead: Overkill – The Lost Reels

Killing zombies is now as easy as tapping your phone … which makes me wonder whether the undead become less of a threat the more we commodify them.

Today Sega launched House of the Dead: Overkill – The Lost Reels on the App Store. At $5, it's not cheap. An Android version is expected to release soon.

The game contains three remixed worlds (each with four levels and a boss) from the original Overkill, which is available on both Wii and PlayStation 3.

Players can test their apocalyptic fighting skills in either the Survival or Story mode and upgrade their weapons' damage, recoil, and reload speeds by spending earned Ka$h … seriously. The in-game currency also unlocks combo extenders, reload boosters, and more.

The Lost Reels also features the original cast: Isaac Washington, Agent G, Varla Guns, and Candi Stryper.

Five dollars seems like a lot to drop on a game that's prevalent on every modern home console in one form or another. I've never found the "remixes" a particularly compelling reason to purchase a House of the Dead game — but then again, I've never played one on a mobile device.
