Obscure is a bloody 2.5D side-scroller with familiar origins

Obscure is an upcoming 2.5D side-scroller that's heavy on the action and drenched in all the blood and humor of a horror movie.

Mighty Rocket Studio is launching the title for PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade this spring. Going alone or cooperatively (locally or online), players control one of four students turned unlikely heroes. Successful combat rests on nailing combos, follow-up attacks, and score multipliers. You can split up or work together in multiplayer, exploring nonlinear levels.

The game's name actually traces back to Hydravision Entertainment's ObsCure, a survival-horror title that released in 2005 for PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. It received a sequel years later. Might Rocket Studio is comprised of some of those same developers, who are back to continue the project.

"Despite the completely different style of gameplay, Mighty Rocket Studio's new game embraces its origins and incorporates many familiar elements of the survival-horror genre: sparse ammunition, limited supplies of health kits, and the oppressive feeling of constant danger in a universe where gruesome creatures may suddenly appear out of nowhere," reads the press release from publisher Focus Home Interactive. "Obscure fans will feel right at home and will even get to visit the famous Leafmore High School and meet some of the previous characters from the series."
