Obsidian announces new survival game Grounded for Xbox One

Honey, I Shrunk The Kids: The Video Game

Fresh off the release of The Outer Worlds, Obsidian Entertainment has announced their first Xbox exclusive game: Grounded. Today at Xbox’s X019 event, Obsidian unveiled the survival game which has drawn comparisons to the film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

“Grounded is a true passion project for the team,” said Feargus Urquhart, CEO at Obsidian Entertainment. “We pride ourselves as being a creative studio and can’t wait to bring our expertise to the survival genre.”

Grounded sees players cooperating with up to three others as they get shrunken down to the size of ants and attempt to survive. By gathering and crafting tools, supplies, and building bases with otherwise everyday items, you’ll have to conquer the harsh conditions of a suburban backyard.

“Grounded offers our unique take on survival games, creating an unforgettable experience,” said Adam Brennecke, Game Director at Obsidian Entertainment. “It’s a perfect setting to flex our creative muscles. We want to create a versatile sandbox where players can create their own memorable experiences.”

Obsidian’s new survival game will also be the first brand new game developed since Xbox acquired the studio.

“We first saw Grounded in development last year when Obsidian Entertainment joined our team. The game exemplifies the innovation we’re excited to see from them in the years ahead,” said Matt Booty, CVP of Xbox Game Studios.

Grounded will release via Game Preview next spring.
