Obsidian CEO: ‘Sad’ about LucasArts, but ‘would love to’ pick a Star Wars game

Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart is sad to see the closing of LucasArts, but expressed a desire to pick a new Star Wars game to Disney. Speaking to Eurogamer, Urquhart acknowledged, "I had seen the news about LucasArts which was sad to see."

"LucasArts was a great supporter of Obsidian when we were first starting out and many of their games are ones I, personally, count as favorites," he added. Last week, Disney revealed it is closing the LucasArts division of Lucasfilm Ltd, which was acquired as part of a deal worth $4.05 billion. The closure is part of Disney's restructuring of LucasArts from "an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games."

In essence, Disney is opening the doors for developers to pitch their ideas. And Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart is thinking of taking them up on the offer.

"As for Obsidian pitching a Star Wars game, or games for that matter, we would love to. Getting to work within the Star Wars world was a ton of fun and it would be great to get to do so again," Urquhart said, referring to Obsidian's prior work on Knights of the Old Republic 2.

This isn't the first we've heard from Urquhart about Obsidian pitching a Star Wars game. In February, he revealed that they had a pitch that took place between Episode 3 and Episode 4. Although it was welcomed at the time, that was before Disney acquired LucasArts. Perhaps with an open-minded approach towards licensing, Disney will rethink Obsidian's idea.
