Obsidian’s ‘Project Louisiana’ officially revealed as Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, opens Fig crowdfunding campaign

Last week Obsidian Entertainment began teasing their next game which they were calling "Project Lousiana." The word "Louisiana" sent some fans around the internet into a frenzy, thinking it was a reference to the long-rumored Fallout: New Orleans. To be fair, the notion itself was sound. It's been over six years since Obsidian released Fallout: New Vegas, which came two years after Bethesda's Fallout 3. The reveal of a Fallout: New Orleans now would seem to put it in line with about the same amount of distance from Fallout 4, so on the surface, it made a ton of sense.

Unfortunately, Obsidian quickly gave themselves away with a second tweet referencing "The Leaden Key" which is an organization "dedicated to the goddess Woedica and the preservation of the secrets of the gods," according to the Pillars of Eternity Wiki.

Today, Obsidian sent out a series of tweets, steadily revealing that their upcoming game is indeed a sequel to the much beloved CRPG, titled Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. On top of that, the company has once again turned to crowdfunding for support even though they apparently have been working on the game for the last year. However, instead of Kickstarter, Obsidian has turned to Fig, a move several other prominent RPG developers have done recently.

As of this writing, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire has accrued over $500,000 of its targeted $1.1 million goal, so it's easy to project that the project will be funded and quickly. The only question is, how much will the campaign end up with when all is said and done.

With the announcement of Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire and the on-going Early Access development of Divinity: Original Sin 2, it's a great time to be a CRPG fan.
