Microsoft has unveiled that Obsidian Entertainment’s unexpected multiplayer-survival game Grounded is going to launch this July via Xbox Game Preview and Early Access on Xbox One and PC via Steam & Microsoft Store. Watch the new trailer below to get a first look at the game’s story mode!
When Obsidian Entertainment first announced their new project Grounded last year, everyone who followed the veneered studio was moderately shocked. And it’s not because of the game itself but rather the developer’s track record. Obsidian has made a name for itself by creating great RPG games after all. So, the jump to the survival genre was simply totally unexpected.
In Grounded, you wake up in a suburban backyard, shrunk to the size of an ant. You hear the voice of a mysterious robot named BURG.L. He seems to know what’s going on and lets you know that the machine to turn you back to normal size is currently out of order. For now, everything in the backyard is trying to kill you and it’s up to you – and up to three friends, if you’re playing co-operative multiplayer – to survive the perilous landscape.
But maybe it’s exactly this uncommon mix of experience which is needed to spruce up the popular survival genre. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer to experience Obsidian’s take on the genre first-hand with Grounded confirmed to release July 28th for Xbox One and PC. The title will be launching in Early Access and Xbox Game Preview though, so it’s apparent that Obsidian is hoping to shape the game in the direction the player base desires. Subscribers to Microsft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will get access to Grounded.
