Since its reveal more than two years ago, virtual reality enthusiasts have been patiently awaiting the release of the Oculus Rift headset. It looks like the wait will be getting even harder, because the Oculus Rift will be officially available for pre-order this Wednesday.
This will be a huge day for the Rift, because up until now we have only seen estimates of the cost for the VR headset. In May, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe suggested that the Rift, along with a PC that can support the device, could have a price of around $1,500.
Iribe wasn't suggesting that the Rift will be packaged with a PC, but that users might see themselves forced to purchase a new PC in order to use the device. In reference to this quote from Iribe, Rift creator Palmer Luckey recently stated that Oculus was "good at keeping promises." So, the $1,500 price to purchase Rift, plus a PC still stands (although, the cost of a PC that can run a Rift headset has not been revealed).
Those that pre-order the Rift will be happy to hear that it will be shipped with an Xbox One controller and the ability to stream Xbox One games via Windows 10. The Rift will be shipped with two VR friendly games, EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky's Tale.
The bad news is that Oculus Touch controls have been delayed until later this year.
