Nearly two years ago, we had the opportunity to sit down with EVE: Valkyrie and the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. What we experienced that day was something we wouldn't soon forget, regardless of the fact that it was simply a prototype. At the time, the demo was one of the best experiences we had with the Oculus headset.
CCP Games, the developers behind EVE Online and EVE: Valkyrie have announced that Valkyrie will be available as a free pre-order bonus for that that purchase the Oculus Rift in advance.
CCP and Oculus have been working together since 2013, which makes Valkyrie tailored to the Rift experience and one of the games that single-handedly sold many users on the headset.
“EVE: Valkyrie is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development," said Palmer Luckey, the creator of the Oculus Rift. "It perfectly captures the promise of immersive gaming, shooting you into a sci-fi adventure as you pilot a spaceship in search of combat. Battling your friends (and enemies) in multiplayer space dogfights is the ultimate VR thrill, and we’re excited to partner with CCP to bring this experience to Rift owners everywhere.”
While PC-based, the Oculus Rift has been made to be compatible with the Xbox One. It will also be shipping with an Xbox One controller, an adapter for the controller and the ability to stream Xbox One games
The Oculus Rift is expected to release in early 2016.
