As you're probably well aware, Sony and Konami have plans to remove the Silent Hills' P.T. (Playable Teaser) demo from the PlayStation Store today.
After today, all traces of the game will be gone unless you download it before it's removed forever. Of course, you could just head over to eBay where a number of people have taken to the auction site to make a quick buck off the tragic news.
As spotted by VG247, there were a number of listings for a PlayStation 4 with P.T. installed. As of this writing, there were at least two listings priced at £1,000.00 (about $1,532). Thankfully, it doesn't appear anyone has been dumb enough to bid on them, but there are "watchers." A third listing is priced at a more reasonable $319.95 and includes five games in addition to the demo — so that's actually not a bad deal.
It's always sad to see people try to take advantage of a tragic situation, but it's not unexpected or anything new to the gaming industry. With Nintendo's Gold Mario amiibo, sellers took to eBay to list the normally $12.96 figure for well over $100. Supply and demand I guess, but it still sucks. However, this is the first time I've seen people try to capitalize on a demo — yes, not even a full game — being removed.
P.T. was announced at last year's Gamescom as an interactive teaser for Silent Hills. Last month, things began to look shaky when it was revealed that Hideo Kojima and Konami were parting ways, as the company removed the developer's name and logo for his production company from its Metal Gear Solid websites, as well as the Silent Hills website. This week, speculation that Silent Hills had been cancelled was actually confirmed by Konami.
On the bright side, the company did at least say they are "committed to new Silent Hill titles" — just not the one we were all excited for, I guess.
