2K Games’ official Twitter account for the open-world Mafia game series is hinting that something new might be coming for the mobster franchise. In two Tweets on consecutive days, the Twitter account posted two vague words seemingly out of nowhere. With one Tweet saying “Family” and the other “Power”.
Family.

Power.

The two cryptic Tweets aren’t actually that hard to understand, as both terms mean a lot in the world of organized crime. Add on to this that the most recent Tweet from the account was a whole two years ago, and there’s good reason to believe that 2K Games is planning to release something new.
Now, there’s obviously the chance that a fourth Mafia game is going to be announced soon but preliminary findings rather suggest that these teases point towards remasters and definitive edition re-releases for the second and third Mafia games. Reinforcing this idea are recent appearances of Mafia 2 &Â Mafia 3 Definite Editions on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee. As such, we’d advise keeping expectations in check with this tease and not be disappointed if it indeed doesn’t end up being a proper new entry.
Still, the series truly deserves to get more recognition. Especially, the second game which is still only available on last-gen consoles. A criminally underrated mobster epic that takes place in the rarely used time period of the 1950s. And while it features a great story with exceptional writing, the beautiful open-world lacked in activities and side-missions. A troubling development period can be attributed to that. Hopefully, the definitive edition goes as far as to rework those aspects. We won’t be holding our breaths though.
Mafia 3, on the other hand, is already available on current-gen systems. So, realistically we are looking at a complete bundle that includes all DLC without major changes to the already top-notch visuals.
