Who said Okami died with the PlayStation 2?
Not Capcom. It released the sequel Okamiden in 2011 and then remastered the original for PlayStation 3 last June. Now, nearly seven years after the initial release, the publisher may be ready to announce a new title.
Maybe.
“Hello, this is Okami news,” tweeted the Japanese Okami Twitter account, according to Gematsu (via Game Jouhou). “Sorry I’ve been kind of out of touch lately, but I have the feeling we’ll be able to drop a fresh announcement like WHAM! around the beginning of Golden Week, so please look forward to it. Right now we’re on track with preparations.”
It continued, "The new game to bring fans tears of happiness finally comes to life! A must-see!”
Golden Week runs from May 29 to May 5 in Japan. It consists of a series of holidays, and many stores and companies close down.
Japanese magazine Famitsu may be planning a special reveal. Its next issue publishes on May 9.
I would love to see a new Okami game if that's indeed what the announcement is about. It would fit right at home on the Wii U with the GamePad and has the potential to push sales of the console, which could use the attention.
Of course, Okami is more of a PlayStation property, so it's possible that a PlayStation Vita game could be in the works.
