Old-school FPS remaster Kingpin: Reloaded coming to PC & Consoles later this year

Another cult FPS from the 1990s is making its return into the gaming scene with Kingpin: Reloaded. The remaster of the 1999 classic is set to come out sometime later this year for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Check out the trailer here!

3D Realms is publishing the remaster of Kingpin which is developed by Slipgate Ironworks. 3D Realms is no stranger to the genre by virtually leaving their mark in the 90s with plenty of excellent shooters like Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of Triad and many more. So, it makes sense that they return once again to what they know best. Help bring out great FPS games into the hands of gamers.

Kingpin came out at the tail end of the last Millenium and set itself apart from contemporary shooters with its gritty crime setting and obscenity. It’s very tame compared to today but back in 1999, it was actually a big deal. Underneath that, however, is a real gem of a game with a timeless tale of revenge among mobsters.

Stalk lamp-lit streets and take down rival gangs to let the Kingpin know his end is nigh. Kingpin’s immersive sim elements allow the Thug to recruit other gangsters with a conversation system. Increase the Thug’s influence through multiple hub-based missions. Run with the gang on a violent warpath with upgradeable weapons including Tommy guns, bazookas, and more. Location-based damage leads to bloody, thrilling battles: kneecap, maim, or go for the head.

The remaster is offering all the niceties you’d want these days, with ultrawide support, 4k/60fps, and improved assets. Below you can get an idea just how far these improvements can go. For purists, there is still a Classic Mode that delivers the original visuals.

Kingpin: Reloaded is the latest in a line of retro-inspired shooters and remasters that have sprung up in the past years. Games like Ion Fury, Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, Blood: Fresh Supply and others have proven that old-school shooting is still high in demand. So, it’s always welcome to see other forgotten gems of yesteryear given a second chance for audiences that very well may have not even heard of them.
