Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One has been a hit since its release in 2011. It’s a great trip down the nostalgia lane for fans of genre and an interesting spin on the dystopian novels that clog the publishing world. It was a no brainer that it was going to get a film. It did just that and attracted Spielberg to helm it.
Ever since that announcement the speculation regarding cast has been flying around the internet since that is what the internet is for- rumors. And also cat memes. Well, mostly cat memes. But rumors, too.
We finally are getting our first confirmations for casting with word that Olivia Cooke has snagged the role of the female lead Art3mis, beating out Elle Fanning and Lola Kirke. Cooke had some great turns in films like The Dying Girl and Me and Earl so the choice is definitely solid. Though, it also means she’s probably out of the running for Star Wars: Episode VIII.
