Playing Pokemon GO has landed one Olympic athlete with a phone bill of $4,954. Giving into peer pressure from his Olympic gymnast teammates, Japan's Kohei Uchimura was convinced by to download and play Pokemon GO. Unfortunately for Uchimura, he made this decision after arriving in Brazil.
The entire time Uchimura attempted to play Pokemon GO, he was racking up a huge bill in roaming charges. What makes it even worse is that Pokemon GO hasn't released in Brazil. There are no Pokemon for Uchimura to catch there or gyms for him to conquer.
Once Uchimura became aware of his roaming charges, he called up his phone company and pleaded with them. Apparently, his phone company has a soul and decided to waive the extra costs and charge him a flat fee of around $30 a day.
Pokemon GO has brought out a mix of the best in people and made their idiocy known to the world.
One wanted criminal walked into a police station to play the game, a choice that had him arrested. Russia called it an attempt by the West to brainwash people, a zookeeper made her own Pokémon GO exhibits, a guy from New Zealand quit his job to become a full-time Pokémon hunter, one player found a dead body while two other walked off a cliff while playing, it seems like Pokémon GO is a never ending source for funny and upright absurd stories.
