DISCLAIMER: We were provided with a code for OneCast on the app store but we weren’t paid to write this article, it’s simply because we believe OneCast is a cool app that our readers may be interested in.
If you’re someone who has their Xbox hooked up to a shared TV (living room, shared bedroom, etc), you may find yourself annoyed when you have to leave your Destiny raid, have to turn off a game during an emotional high point in the campaign, and so on. PlayStation eliminated this problem for PlayStation Vita owners with the Remote Play feature but Xbox hasn’t really had a solution to this issue.
Sure, you can stream games to your PC and some other devices but the OneCast app has made it far more convenient for iOS users. If you own an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can purchase the OneCast app on the app store for $11.99 on iPhone/iPad or $19.99 on Mac. Simply follow the instructions the app gives you which requires you to ensure that both your Xbox and Apple product are on the same network, connect a controller via USB or Bluetooth, and enjoy your game from your phone or Mac.
The app can stream content in up to 1080p and if you’re playing on the iPhone or iPad, you can use a touchscreen controller. While you can’t get too far from the console out of risk of latency issues, it’s a pretty competent remote play solution for those that want to play a game while someone else is occupying the TV or if you’re in the mood to watch a movie (the movie can’t be played simultaneously through the Xbox) and play a game, you can!
OneCast is currently available on the app store.
