Online multiplayer missing from Batman: Arkham Origins on Wii U

Today we learned that Batman: Arkham Origins, the next entry in the popular series from Warner Bros., features online play. But the developer in charge of the mode is skipping the Wii U version of the game.

"The team is focusing development efforts on platforms with the largest [multiplayer] audience," a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Eurogamer.

The mode will only be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions.

This reluctance to take a chance on Wii U is holding the console back — all because Nintendo has launched to a slow start, just like with the now-successful 3DS. Ubisoft decided against Wii U exclusivity with Rayman Legends, instead delaying the release date to bring the sequel to different platforms simultaneously. Since then, the developer has made several gestures to keep disgruntled fans in its good graces.

Now the same is happening here. Instead of building up goodwill and helping the Wii U to establish a multiplayer base, Warner Bros. is passing altogether for safer bets.
