Online shooter Destiny ups resolution after ditching Kinect

Bungie will be taking advantage of the GPU boost granted by Kinect-less Xbox One dev kits by increasing the resolution of their upcoming online shooter Destiny.

It was recently confirmed that removing Kinect from the equation grants a 10% boost to GPU bandwidth and performance, meaning the next line of Xbox One SDKs will offer developers access to more of the system’s GPU, allowing them to do more with their games.

Newly appointed Xbox Head Phil Spencer addressed the boost in an interview with OXM, saying:

“I think about games like Sunset Overdrive, that’s going to take advantage of the June [software development kit],” he said. “And they’re going to use the increased capability that lowering the reserve will have to actually make a more vibrant and alive gameplay space, so that’s where they’re going to invest.”

Spencer also announced the GPU boost himself, though Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb was the one to clarify the aforementioned 10% increase, stating that “the GPU change was developer facing,” and that simply unplugging your Kinect will not yield the same result.

So run and plug yours back in.
