After a retail listing over at PlayStation Asia proclaimed Supermassive’s new IP, Until Dawn, as featuring multiplayer of up to 12, a lot of people got pretty damned interested. Turns out someone misspoke and the horror survival story will be exclusively single player. But honestly, that’s okay.
This all makes sense given the game’s adaptive Butterfly-Effect Interface, throwing in multiplayer on top of it feels like too much salt in the soup, especially in a game where an isolated atmosphere will only serve to enhance the experience. The game was always set to be unique with each playthrough, changing with every choice the player makes and it wouldn’t take much imagination to see people arguing over those very choices if multiplayer, let alone up to 12, was a principle component of the game.
Supermassive describes the game as “eight friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat and things quickly turn sinister, they start to suspect they aren’t alone. Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, you’ll be forced to make snap decisions that could mean life, or death, for everyone involved.”
Until Dawn comes to PlayStation 4 on August 28th.
