Ori and the Blind Forest Dev: Scorpio is ‘a full blown next-gen machine’ that will be backwards compatible with your entire library

If true, that's pretty awesome

Microsoft's upcoming console, currently titled "Project Scorpio" has been the center of a lot of talk throughout the day. A lot of that had to do with the leaked documents that fell into the hands of Digital Foundry as well as Xbox head, Phil Spencer's first round of gaming on the machine. One developer who has had extensive experience with Microsoft chimed in on the Scorpio talk and offered some pretty incredible insight if it does indeed turn out to be true.

Thomas Mahler, a developer on the former Xbox One exclusive, Ori and the Blind Forest took to the NeoGAF thread on Phil Spencer to try and dispel some of the confusion surrounding the system. According to him, Scorpio isn't just some incremental step-up, it's "a full-blown next-gen machine" as opposed to the PS4 Pro, which he called a "half-assed upgrade."

This is a pretty exciting insight if what Mahler says is true, and it certainly seems viable. Microsoft's push on backwards compatibility appears to be a full-blown commitment that has proven to be a very successful one, so having its next machine be able to play Xbox One games at launch would be a huge coup. Not to mention the fact that it could put added pressure on Sony to pony up and start exploring the feature themselves.

Whatever Scorpio is, Microsoft seems to be cooking something up big time.
