While the news that a new and updated version of Disney Infinity is coming out this year, especially for those looking to play them on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, is awesome, there is one big caveat for those hoping to replay the early Playsets on either of those consoles.
Upon the announcement of Disney Infinity 2.0, I reached out to see whether I would be able to play my Monsters Inc. Playset when I inevitably get the game on either the PS4 or Xbox One. This was the response:
No, the Play Sets aren’t compatible, but every IGP, Power Disc and toy the player unlocked in Disney Infinity will be playable in the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Toy Box; and all characters have an increased level cap of 20
If you place a play set piece down, it will unlock all of the toys from that Play Set. For example, if you place the Toy Story play set piece down, it will unlock all of the toys and gadgets a player has collected from Bullseye, Buzz’s wings and the Goo Gun to the Pixar ball.
So looks like even though you won't actually be able to play through the Playset campaigns in 2.0, you will be able to unlock the toys for Toy Box mode by holding on to those Playset pieces.
