Julian Gollop, the original creator of X-COM in the 90s, has started crowdfunding for a new game called Phoenix Point. As Gollop is known for, it's a turn-based Tactical RPG.
The project can be found on crowdfunding website Fig, and it was launched today. The stated goal for Phoenix Point is $500,000. So far, the campaign has already raised $250,000 with 3,900 backers as of posting this article. The campaign ends June 8, so funding probably shouldn't be a concern.
Phoenix Point resembles X-COM 2: Terror From the Deep. Evil monstrosities of unknown origins emerge from the seas and terrorize humanity. It's up to not-XCOM to save the day in tactical RPG fashion!
What's really exciting is how the aliens transform throughout the game to adjust to your tactics. Something Gollop probably couldn't do back in the original X-COM days. There's also giant behemoth aliens that take both air support and a strike team to take down.
Phoenix Point was announced in March 2016, and has been in the initial phases of development. to learn more about the project, visit their page on Fig. For those interested, a digital copy of the game can be rewarded upon release to those who back $30 or more.
