Horror fans who own a Nintendo Switch will be happy, as developer Red Barrels announced in a Facebook Post that both Outlast 1 and 2 would be hitting the console/portable during the first quarter of 2018. The post initially began as a means of thanking fans for their support, but the developers quickly got to work talking about the future of the series.
They acknowledged the fan request for DLC for Outlast 2 but said that it wouldn't be happening. They said:
"While the first Outlast was made with the idea of a DLC in mind, that was not the case for Outlast 2. We’ve considered many options, but none of them felt appropriate for a DLC. Outlast 2 was created to make you feel like a rat in a maze, without any knowledge of what’s outside the maze."
Right now, the studio's primary focus is on two things, the Nintendo Switch ports for Outlast 1 & 2 as well as "a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe."
Red Barrels isn't talking about what exactly that is yet, as they are saying that they need to be sure that they can "make it work" before announcing it. It feels like it could be a VR experience, and given the pace of Outlast's gameplay, it would certainly make sense as something that the developers would feel they have to take their time to make sure it works.
Lastly, Red Barrels also confirmed that they would make Outlast 3 and "answers will be given."
Boom.
