Outlast 2 won’t be set in an asylum

New teaser image revealed

Last October, Red Barrels announced Outlast 2, a sequel to their acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Slated to release this fall, not much was known about the game. Only a vague teaser trailer was released with a brief overview:

"No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith."

Recently, however, Red Barrels took to Twitter to answer a few questions, revealing a few new details as well as another teaser image.

Outlast 2

For starters, Outlast 2 won't be set in an asylum this time. The developer says they're going for a new setting, but didn't provide any other details.

We also know the game is set "somewhat after" the events of Mount Massive, and that hiding will still be a key component in the gameplay.

Red Barrels promises Outlast 2 "will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do."
