Ouya costs $99 at retail on June 4 launch

The Android-based microconsole Ouya should be shipping out to Kickstarter backers today, but it's coming to the public a little later, on June 4.

Ouya will cost $99 at retailers in the U.S., Canada, and U.K., according to Joystiq via Engadget.

The console earned more than $8 million on Kickstarter last year, making it one of the most successful projects on the crowdfunding site.

Ouya already supports hundreds of games from a number of companies, big and small. The console maker intends to release a new model every year "similar to the mobile strategy," according to chief executive officer Julie Uhrman.
