Ouya is ‘the size of a Rubik’s Cube’

Lead hardware designer Yves Béhar answered reader questions on Kotaku and told potential Ouya users that his team has "made a deliberate attempt to go away from current shapes" with their console.

"Our console is quite small, around the size of a Rubik's cube, and so it will easily fit anywhere in a room, or be easy to throw in a backpack," he wrote.

Ouya features a touch pad "that will enable many of the interactions we have become accustomed to on mobile." The controller will sport letters and colors at launch, but the team is still testing different possibilities and looking for input from the community.

"I personally feel that it is so much better to share early directions with this community, and that it’s quite different from the traditional approach which is to keep everything secret till the last minute," he wrote. "Great input means we continue to improve on the system and innovate."

The console will have USB and Bluetooth built in. As for their main vision?

"For the last few generations, consoles have largely been competing on hardware specs — faster speeds, better graphics," Béhar wrote. "We wanted to disrupt this pattern. We will see how the community responds, but we believe we can foster more creative games and bring some of that magic back to the gaming industry by being more open, giving more control and giving easier access to developers."

What do you think of Ouya?
