Microsoft has announced that more than one million Xbox One consoles have been sold worldwide in the first 24 hours of the system's launch. As a result, first-day sales for Microsoft's next-gen console have surpassed those of the Xbox 360 when ti launched eight years ago.
The number matches Sony's success with its PlayStation 4 — which has also sold over 1 million consoles at launch — except that the Xbox One launched in 13 countries while the PS4 released in just two (United States and Canada). Both systems, since their respective launches, have been sold out at retailers, indicating that the only thing holding them back are supply issues.
Microsoft has reassured consumers that they are "working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our consumers." No specific details regarding shipments or console allocation were revealed, but I'd suggest checking in with your local retailer on a daily basis.
