Overkill’s The Walking Dead game delayed to 2017

Starbreeze announced today a new partnership with Korean game company Smilegate that, among a number of things, will see the company publish and distrubte games, including Payday 2 and Overkill's The Walking Dead, into the Asian PC and Mobile markets.

As part of the deal, Overkill's The Walking Dead will be expanded with "more content where an Asian version will be developed for simultaneous launch with the western version."

As a result, Starbreeze 505 Games and Skybound have decided to release the game in all markets during the second half of 2017 to "maximize the new opportunities." It originally had a 2016 release window.

"The partners are convinced this will pave the way to success, maximize revenues and cement it as a tent pole product for the next decade to come," the press release states.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is being developed as a first-person VR experience in conjunction with Starbreeze Studios' own StarVR virtual reality headset. It'll also be developed as a standalone experience for Xbox One and PS4. At TwitchCon last year I had the opportunity to go hands-on with the VR version of the game.
