Overwatch’s Open Beta reeled in 9.7 million players, Blizzard’s largest ever

That's a lot of death right there

Overwatch is going to be a very popular game when it releases if the Open Beta numbers are any indication. Blizzard has reported that 9.7 million people around the world logged on to the team based shooter for a grand total of 81 million hours. That's 4.9 billion minutes. Holy crap.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment had this to say about the Open Beta's reception.

"We're thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the Open Beta…Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the full game ahead of its launch—the response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast."

Clearly it was mission successful for the team over at Blizzard. They even extended it a day so that we could all play more (and gradually develop a mildly unhealthy addiction) of it. Congratulations on a successful Open Beta, and I think it goes without saying that we can't wait to get our hands on the final product.
