Are you a fan of The Walking Dead? Have $680,000 just sitting around? If you answered yes to both of those questions, you're going to want to listen very closely — a town in which one of the episodes of AMC's hit show The Walking Dead was filmed in is now for sale. Well, technically nine buildings in downtown Grantville, Georgia are for sale.
Listed on eBay for $680,000, downtown Grantville — a former textiles town in the '70s and '80s — now thrives as a tourist industry, particularly with the Walking Dead crowd that want to see the location of Season 3's twelfth episode "Clear."
Grantville isn't just hope to The Walking Dead, but many other movies as well. In fact, according to the listing, three movies have just signed up to film in Grantville.
"…two very well known actors will be starring in the roles. The other movie is a sequel to the very popular 'The Ring,'" the listing states, promising, "These movies are another source of income for the next owner."
Beyond tourism and movie filming, it seems the main source of income comes from tenants which occupy about 45 percent of the area for sale. According to the listing, annual property tax for the area is $4,524 with the buildings earning $6,500 in rentals.
It seems, though, that most of the money to be made stems from The Walking Dead. "We have people coming from all over the world because of the Walking Dead, that's paying the bills downtown," said former Mayor Jim Sells.
That's all fine now, but what happens when The Walking Dead becomes irrelevant?
