P.T. is not playable on PS5 despite initial reports

If you’re one of the handful of people who has Hideo Kojima’s fabled P.T. demo on your PS4, that’s going to be the only way to play it. Fans were hopeful that the delisted horror game would be available on PS5 via backward compatibility and a data transfer but that’s not the case.

PS5 reviewers noted that P.T. was actually briefly transferable and playable. Polygon noted that they played it on PS5 back in October but Konami has pulled support of it. Sony’s official response to Polygon was that the decision to remove P.T. was a “publisher decision”. Whether or not Konami has a change of heart down the line remains to be seen.

As of right now, though, Konami is attempting to ensure we all forget about P.T.. Despite their best efforts, it’s having the opposite effect. For those out of the loop, P.T. is a horror demo on the PS4. It was released by an unknown studio but after solving a bunch of cryptic riddles over the course of days, players unveiled the truth. It was a teaser for an all-new Silent Hill game from Metal Gear Sold creator Hideo Kojima.

The game would have starred Norman Reedus and co-created with horror director Guillermo del Toro. After a messy development on Metal Gear Solid V, Hideo Kojima was reportedly ousted from the company. Konami chose to scrap his Silent Hill game and remove all traces of the P.T. demo from the PlayStation Store. Players who deleted the demo were unable to redownload it, making it near impossible to acquire without having it on your hard drive.

Some people have found crafty work-arounds but ultimately, Konami has blocked most attempts to play it. Many rumors over the years have suggested Silent Hill will return but Kojima’s involvement is a mystery.

The PlayStation 5 will release on November 12th, 2020. You can check out our review of PS5 launch game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales by clicking here. Pre-orders are sold out but you can potentially nab one online on release date.
