Wedbush's Michael Pachter, one of the industries' most notorious analysts, has been one of the most outspoken critics of the Battlefield/Modern Warfare 3 "war." He has taken his predictions to whole new level with his latest statement: Modern Warfare 3's sales will double Battlefield 3's, with the gap expanding even more next year. It is a no brainer that Call of Duty attracts a much larger community base than any other franchise, but double the sales?
Pachter's comments came from an interview with Forbes. In it, Pachter predicts that Modern Warfare 3 will sell 16 million copies this year, as opposed to Battlefield 3's estimated 8 million. Pachter also expects that lead to grow in 2012, with MW3 selling another 8 million next year, and BF3 selling an extra 2 million units.
He also expects an enormous amount of gamers to purchase both FPS titles: “I’d guess that around half of the console copies of Battlefield 3 will be bought by people who also buy Modern Warfare 3, so around 2 to 3 million will buy both. I don’t see much cannibalization of the titles.”
Battlefield 3 has had a successful launch for the most part, and only time will tell if Pachter is ineed right. What do you think? Let us know by commenting below.
