Pachter: Sony ‘100% certain’ to announce PS4 on Feb. 20

Late last week, Sony rocked the gaming industry with an ambiguous post that many believed to be a PlayStation 4 announcement teaser. Sid Shuman posted a brief video on the PlayStation Blog titled, #PlayStation2013, along with the headline "See the Future."

Of course, the brief 45-second video didn't really show much of anything other than PlayStation's signature buttons floating around. It then flashed the February 20, 2013 date and the annotation "Be the first to know."

Sony never actually responds to rumors or speculation meaning we won't know exactly what will be revealed until the actual event, but certain industry analysts are firm in their stance that Feb. 20th will be the highly anticipated PS4 reveal.

Industry analyst Michael Pachter, of Wedbush Securities for example, feels Sony is "100 percent certain to announce the PlayStation 4" at the event. That's according to game developers and retailers supposedly familiar with Sony's plans.

And while we've seen plenty of rumors and speculation about the PS4's hardware specs over the past few months, Pachter also added, "They'll be able to put a lot more characters on the screen and allow for hyperrealistic games." Other possibilities, according to Pachter, include processors capable of rendering games at 240 frames per second.

As per usual, all of this is speculation. One thing is certain however. Come February 20, all eyes will be on Sony.
