‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’ release date has been set for 2018

Set your calendars...for a year and a half from now!

The sequel to Guillermo Del Toro's monster apocalypse thriller, Pacific Rim, has commited to a 2018 release date.

Fans of 2013's Pacific Rim were pleased to discover recently that 'Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens' star, John Boyega, has been cast in the sequel, set to start production later this year. Unfortunately, in order for the film to move forward at all, acclaimed director and creative genius behind the first movie, Guillermo Del Toro, had to step down to pursue other projects, leaving 'Spartacus' creator, Steven S. DeKnight, to man the helm.

Now that the next chapter has been set into motion, Legendary Pictures has finally commited to a release date of February 23, 2018. While this date is still a long way off, its at least comforting to know that the project is on schedule and has been placed in very capable hands.

'Pacific Rim: Maelstrom' stars John Boyega, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, and Max Martini.
