Pandora’s Tower hits the North American eShop

A game about a curse gets its second life on another dying console

Pandora's Tower was the last of Operation Rainfall's three focal points to be localized, but it is the first of the trio to make its digital debut in North America. (Not counting Xenoblade Chronicles on new 3DS.)

If you aren't familiar with Operation Rainfall, it was a fan movement to get Nintendo to localize three Wii JRPG's that Nintendo of America claimed they had no intention of bringing over: Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower. All three eventually made it to American shores, albeit after the Wii was starved to death and, in the case of Pandora's Tower, the Wii U had released.

In Pandora's Tower, players guide Aeron through thirteen towers to break a curse on his loved one, Elena. Aeron must constantly keep an eye on Elena's condition while exploring the towers, or she'll succumb to the curse and become a beast. Since he can't leave her alone for too long, finding shortcuts through the areas is of vital importance. Players can also opt to spend time strengthening Aeron's relationship with Elena through various means, which also influences the game's endings.

All three of the Operation Rainfall titles are rock solid choices for fans of JRPGs that want something a little different. We can only hope this is just the beginning, with Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story getting North American digital releases down the road..
