Paramount shuffles release dates for Friday the 13th, Rings, and Paranormal Activity 5

Paramount Pictures has shuffled the release dates of a trio of upcoming horror films: Friday the 13th, Rings, and Paranormal Activity 5.

Paramount's reboot of Friday the 13th, their first film in the franchise since reacquiring it from New Line Cinema, is in development hell right now. No one has any idea what the movie will end up being about, and they haven't decided on a script yet. There's no way the film would have been ready by its original release date of November 13, 2015, so Paramount has moved the release date to May 13, 2016. New Line Cinema's film made $90 million on a $19 million budget, so it's strange that Paramount is having such a hard time figuring this out.

Taking Friday the 13th's spot will be Rings — the reboot of 2003's The Ring. There's little known about the plot at this time, but given that it's new release date is November 15, 2015, you can bet that Paramount will be starting production soon.

Lastly, the fifth Paranormal Activity movie (because we don't count the Marked Ones spinoff) is delayed from March 13, 2015 to October 23, 2015 — as it should be. Paranormal Activity's spring release didn't make sense, as the first four films in the franchise all opened in the fall around Halloween.

So… rundown of the new release dates:

  • Paranormal Activity 5: The Ghost Dimension October 23, 2015
  • Rings November 13, 2015
  • Friday the 13th May 13, 2016
