Mega Man is a very beloved video game character. He is held close to many gamers around the world and is an icon. The story of his games are unique and creative and the gameplay itself is fun and addicting. There's a reason that Capcom is able to re-release almost every single Mega Man every generation without fans being annoyed.
With that said, Fox is developing a Mega Man movie and they're going to need a very specific team to pull this off to the delight of fans. A new rumor coming from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that Fox is in final negotiations with Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the directors of the documentary about online dating, Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3 & 4, and Nerve. While these aren't exactly critical darlings, it's possible that the movie the duo pitched is exactly what Fox is looking for.
Previous reports indicate that this will be a live-action film so it's unclear what direction the directing team will take with the movie. Hopefully, they stay true to the roots of the series and are able to deliver a film worthy of having the Mega Man brand attached to it.
