Payday developer to release John Wick VR shooter in 2016

Payday developer Starbreeze is partnering with Lionsgate Films to create a virtual reality first-person shooter based on the film John Wick.

As Eurogamer reports, VR studios Grab and Wevr will be heading up the virtual aspects of the game’s development. With Starbreeze at the helm, we can expect a very Payday variety of things that go boom. However, Keanu Reeves, who played the titular character in the film, has not yet been confirmed for voice or motion capture work.

The game will not mimic the narrative of the film, but will be strongly influenced by its premise and characters. Though the adaptation itself is a surprise, Starbreeze was the most likely candidate for developer given that a John Wick character pack came to Payday 2 shortly after the film’s release in October 2014. How VR was added into the mix we may never know.

The John Wick game will release at some point in 2016. SteamVR demos will become available near the start of the year, with John Wick 2 not far behind.
