Persona 5 currently stands as one of the year's highest rated games, sitting only behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in its average Metascore. The series has gradually grown over subsequent releases in the west, particularly after Persona 4 Golden hit the PS Vita back in 2012. Suffice it to say; the hype was very real for Persona 5, and the sales numbers as revealed by the Sega Raw livestream back that up.
According to Sega Producer and Director, Toshihiro Nagoshi, who appeared on the livestream, Persona 5 has moved over 1.8 million units world wide since its launch in Japan back in September of 2016.
Here's the livestream. The announcement is made around 49:05.
Developer Atlus had previously reported a hefty $5.12 million loss during their fiscal year 2017, but given the sales numbers that have come out of the west, it's likely that they will do much in 2018.
Persona 5 is available now on PS4 and PS3.
