How big is Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 in Latin America? Well, according to gaming site Jogos, a Latin American publication, it sold 600 thousand across all platforms. The information is in Portuguese, but a poster on NeoGAF was able to translate some of the important facts.
The game sold 252 thousand in Brazil, which some GAFers have pointed out has a very high tax rate on games.
Let’s put this into perspective:
– Gamasutra reports that games that are six months old in the US sell “through legitimate vendors at 250 reais, or around $140 US dollars.”
– Meanwhile, according to the NeoGAF post, games that are considered “good” sell between 8-10 thousand units.
– God of War III sold around 30 thousand units.
Here are a few more facts taken from the original post:
– Want to decrease taxes on games, that way games will launch between R$99 and R$129 (U$56 to U$73) instead of launching at R$229 to R$249 (U$128 to U$140)
– Sales in Mexico increased by a factor of 8 after tax reductions
– Mexico represents about 2% of the world market, Brazil about .5%
– Konami helped push sales by launching the game at 99 reais, which is roughly $56 in the US for both the PS3, 360 and the Wii.
– The PlayStation 2 version of the game launched at 59 reais, which is $33 in US currency.
