PETA is once again making headlines for some head scratching reasons.
The organization is asking Games Workshop, creators of the table top game Warhammer 40,000, to stop depicting imagery of its characters wearing animal fur.
Let me repeat this: they want to stop plastic/metal toys from wearing fake fur in a gaming series where demons, death, and bloody sacrifices are a common occurrence.
Here is part of PETA’s statement:
“Indeed, nothing on the bloody battlefields of Warhammer’s conflict-ravaged universe could match the terrible reality that foxes, minks, rabbits, and other living beings experience at the hands of the fur trade…”
“While we appreciate that they are fictional, draping them in what looks like a replica of a dead animal sends the message that wearing fur is acceptable – when, in fact, it has no more place in 2017 than it would in the year 40,000.”
PETA is no stranger to weird requests in the name of preventing cruelty and mistreatment of animals, and its certainly meddled in the video game realm as well.
The organization has made parodies of the Pokemon series, claiming if Pokemon were living in our world they would eventually be made into food. It also created its own River City Ransom-style flash game depicting MMA fighters freeing caged animals.
