PETA is certainly no stranger to taking popular, classic video games, and turning them into an animal rights campaign. Some are a little less flattering than others, but they do tend to get their point across.
This time, PETA's new game is Cage Fight: Knock Out Animal Abuse, and is done in the style of River City Ransom. You're no longer playing a young badass trying to save a damsel in distress, instead, you're playing as MMA fighters Jake Shields, Aaron Simpson, and Georgi Karakhanyan, who are all also vegetarians in real life.
Your goal in the game is to pummel evil animal experimenters and free animals from their cages before they're experimented on. In retro fashion, you'll be able to punch, kick and perform special moves on these experimenters, all to some sweet chiptune sounds.
"Cage Fight doesn't just show you how animals suffer in laboratories—it gives you the chance to combat cruel animal experimenters, both in the game and in real life," says PETA Director of Marketing Innovations Joel Bartlett. "While you're pummeling cruel experimenters with MMA fighters' fists in the game, you can use PETA's website to fire off protest letters to real-world institutions that cage, poison, and kill animals."
And hey, for your convenience, we even embedded the game right here. PLAY IT!
